Omtool will be demonstrating its products - adopted by nearly 250
law firms - at LegalTech 2008, Booth No. 321/323/325
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2008--Omtool, Ltd.
(OTCBB:OMTL), a leading provider of document capture and handling
products and services, today announced further enhancements to its
AccuRoute product line extending its support and dedication to
customers in the legal industry. As the company continues to grow with
nearly 250 legal customers and 45% of the top 100 U.S. law firms,
Omtool is responding to market requirements and expanding its customer
base by adding new features and enhancements to its already
comprehensive legal solutions including the Legal Option Pack,
embedded multi-function device clients using PIN Personalization, and
cost recovery integrations.
Document capture and routing has become a critical infrastructure
requirement of many law firms. Progressive firms have come to realize
that business-critical information is trapped in huge volumes of paper
documents, and scanning those documents makes the information
immediately accessible throughout their organizations from within
their document management systems and in enterprise search results.
Omtool models its solution based on the way legal employees conduct
every day business. Users are accustomed to using fax so Omtool
responded by creating a routing sheet - with the look and feel of an
ordinary fax cover sheet - to initiate a document scan. Users also
demand the ability to access and profile documents from within their
document management systems. Omtool responded with extensions to
support the document management systems common to the legal
marketplace. Last year the company announced its Legal Option Pack
which is tightly integrated with Interwoven WorkSite, and now recently
with Open Text eDOCs (formerly Hummingbird DM), to provide employees
with simple "right-click" access directly into AccuRoute from their
document management system.
"We look forward to deploying the AccuRoute Legal Option Pack
solution. We expect it will allow our firm to become a more efficient,
streamlined organization," said Daniel Harrison, CIO, White & Williams
LLP. "Each new Omtool application that we've adopted has provided us
with an opportunity to grow, save costs, and ultimately, improve
productivity and our end user experience. Their AccuRoute Legal Option
Pack will provide us with much-needed functionality for integrating
our paper documents with our electronic information."
Today, multi-function printer (MFP) providers have added new
intelligence to their devices that allows software to be embedded and
accessed by users from the front panel of these "smart" machines. Now,
document capture and routing solutions such as AccuRoute can be driven
from the desktop and accessed directly from these intelligent
networked MFPs. Through Omtool's partnerships with many of the leading
MFP vendors such as HP, Ricoh, and Xerox, among others, AccuRoute has
become a natural and necessary extension to existing MFP solutions to
deliver full enterprise-class document capture and routing.
A new feature now available through the AccuRoute Embedded Device
Client for HP offers an optional feature called PIN Personalization.
Through the Omtool PIN Personalization Agent, a user can walk up to
the device, identify himself and AccuRoute presents his personal
routing rules and default scan options. A user may now be identified
at the HP MFP device by entering his e-mail address, employee ID, or
other PIN code and the resulting screen is personalized to his options
and defined routing rules. This translates into benefits such as
increased productivity by being able to identify oneself easily and
quickly at the device as well as increasing user adoption of AccuRoute
and its personalized scanning functionalities.
Law firms have traditionally charged back their clients for tasks
such as faxing, copying, courier fees, etc. Within the last few years,
firms have realized that scanning and document capture tasks are also
candidates for client billing. Omtool's AccuRoute is accessible
directly from the terminals of leading cost recovery systems such as
Billback Systems, Control Systems, Inc. (Copitrak), Equitrac
Corporation, and nQueue INC. to deliver single access and billing for
document capture. The same software infrastructure from Omtool works
with any user access method desired whether through a traditional
routing sheet, through the interface of a smart MFP, or through a cost
recovery terminal making AccuRoute the most extensible software
platform for document capture available.
Times change and technologies change. As law firms adopt new
technologies such as more advanced document management systems or
enterprise search capabilities, their business-critical documents must
adapt too. Electronic documents that were originally captured as
scanned images are not text-searchable and cannot be accessed by
enterprise search capabilities. Heeding the needs of the marketplace,
Omtool now delivers a "document extractor" which can convert documents
from image-only files to fully text-searchable documents unleashing
the power of the content to the firm, as well as aiding in the
migration from one document management system to another.
"Clearly, Omtool is the established leader in providing
enterprise-class, software-based document capture and handling
solutions," said Thaddeus Bouchard, CTO, Omtool. "We are listening
carefully to the legal industry and responding to shifts in this
dynamic and progressive marketplace to deliver technologies that are
aligned with our customers' needs. We now offer the most extensive
product with the greatest support for integrated software solutions
with our MFP, cost recovery, and document management partners."
